Winter Conditions

?As we head towards the end of the world (Mayas announced it on the 21st of December) the mountain appears to be in proper winter conditions. Considerable snow cover starts above 2200m, but given the weekly forecast snow level will drop to below 1000m.

Skiing without machinery.

Until today snow conditions were good for snow travel and mountaineering. Hard packed and icy snow dominates all slopes of the upper mountain (Megala Kazania, Skourta, Barbalas ridge, etc) while wind blown accumulations are confined in the cirques of the Muses Plateau and within the couloirs at the north and east sides of the mountain.

Fresh snowfall and an abrupt increase in temperature for the coming weekend will rise the avalanche danger prohibiting skiing on the big open slopes and traversing along such slopes.
